Euro Truck Simulator 2 truck reversing in a delivery yard for trailer parking practice

Quick answer

To reverse a trailer in ETS2, steer in small corrections, watch the trailer angle, and pull forward whenever the angle gets too sharp. The key is not one perfect turn. It is setting the trailer angle early, straightening often, and using mirrors before the truck and trailer jackknife.

Reversing a trailer in ETS2 feels backwards because the trailer reacts to the truck angle, not just the steering wheel. Beginners usually fail by turning too much, waiting too long to correct, and refusing to pull forward.

Use this guide after How to Park in ETS2 and before trying harder parking options.

Good reversing is slow, boring, and full of small resets.

The Basic Rule

When reversing, the trailer follows the angle between the truck and trailer. Small steering inputs are enough. If you steer hard and hold it, the trailer will fold quickly.

Practice this rhythm:

  1. Stop before the parking area.
  2. Turn slightly to start the trailer angle.
  3. Straighten the wheel.
  4. Watch the trailer in the mirrors.
  5. Pull forward when the angle gets too sharp.
  6. Reverse again from a straighter line.

Recovery Is Part Of The Skill

Pulling forward is not giving up. It is the normal way to fix trailer angle. If the trailer is already pointing badly, no amount of extra steering will make the reverse clean.

Mirror visibility matters more than camera tricks once you start reversing in first person.

Practice Drill

Use a normal single trailer and a large yard:

  1. Reverse straight for 20 meters.
  2. Add a small left angle.
  3. Pull forward and straighten.
  4. Add a small right angle.
  5. Repeat until you can predict the trailer.

Do this without cargo if you are worried about damage.
