Euro Truck Simulator 2 profile and map interface related to save and profile management

Quick answer

On Windows, ETS2 user files are usually in Documents\Euro Truck Simulator 2, including profiles, config.cfg, live_streams.sii, and game.log.txt. Steam Workshop mods are managed by Steam in its workshop folders. Back up profile folders before editing, removing mods, or changing config files.

Many ETS2 fixes start with the same problem: the player cannot find the files. Profiles, saves, logs, radio files, and config files live outside the game menu, so it is worth learning the basic folder layout.

Windows User Folder

Most Windows installs use:

Documents\Euro Truck Simulator 2

Common files and folders there:

ItemWhat it is for
profilesLocal profile folders
steam_profilesSteam-linked profile folders on many setups
modManual .scs mods
config.cfgMain configuration file
controls.sii inside profile foldersProfile control bindings
live_streams.siiInternet radio stream list
game.log.txtLatest game log
game.crash.txtCrash report if created

Folder names can vary depending on Steam Cloud and profile setup, so search inside the ETS2 user folder if needed.

Steam Workshop Mods

Workshop mods are managed by Steam, not usually by the manual mod folder. Do not move Workshop files around unless you know exactly why. Use Steam subscribe, unsubscribe, and update behavior first.

For Workshop problems, read ETS2 Steam Workshop Mod Not Updating.

Before Editing Anything

  1. Close ETS2.
  2. Copy the profile folder to a separate backup location.
  3. Name the backup with date and reason.
  4. Edit only one thing.
  5. Start the game and test.

Use How to Back Up ETS2 Profiles and Saves for a safer backup workflow.

game.log.txt

game.log.txt can help diagnose crashes and mod issues. It may include local paths, hardware info, and mod names, so review it before posting it publicly.

Look near the bottom after a crash, then compare it with the last mod or setting you changed.

Do Not Delete Random Folders

Deleting files without a backup can remove profiles, controls, screenshots, radio streams, and mod configuration. Rename or back up first if you are testing a reset.

File location knowledge is useful only when paired with caution.
