Euro Truck Simulator 2 motorway route used for Convoy multiplayer driving

Quick answer

Use ETS2 Convoy when you want official small-session multiplayer with friends. Everyone should run the same game version, match required mods and DLC, and agree on job type before starting. Use TruckersMP instead only if you specifically want a larger public multiplayer network.

Convoy is ETS2's official multiplayer mode for driving with friends in smaller sessions. It is simpler than TruckersMP for private groups, but it still needs version, mod, and DLC checks.

Before Hosting

Check:

  1. Everyone uses the same ETS2 version.
  2. Required DLC is understood.
  3. Mods are either disabled or matched.
  4. The host has a stable connection.
  5. Players agree on route length and cargo difficulty.
  6. Everyone has time to finish the job.

If one player cannot join, remove mods and test a simple session first.

Mods In Convoy

Mods can work only when the session requirements are met. The safest beginner setup is no mods, then add a small shared mod list later.

If using mods:

  1. Use the same mod versions.
  2. Use the same load order when required.
  3. Avoid complex map combos first.
  4. Test before a long group drive.

Read ETS2 Mod Manager Load Order Guide.

DLC And Jobs

If a route or cargo requires DLC, every player may not be able to take the same job. Choose a base-map route for a first session if the group has mixed DLC ownership.

Good First Convoy

  1. Short route.
  2. Daylight.
  3. Normal cargo.
  4. No heavy traffic mods.
  5. Easy parking.
  6. Voice chat or clear text chat.

The first session should prove the setup works. Save heavy cargo, map combos, and long routes for later.

If Joining Fails

  1. Check version.
  2. Disable mods.
  3. Check DLC requirements.
  4. Restart the game.
  5. Try a new simple session.
  6. Check official SCS updates if a patch just released.

Convoy works best when the group keeps the setup boring and the driving interesting.
